Sri Lankan PM Harini to lead delegation to Commonwealth Summit in Antigua & Barbuda

Sri Lanka’s Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya is set to lead the island nation’s official delegation to the 28th Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM 2026), slated to run from November 1 to 4 in St. John’s, the capital of Antigua and Barbuda, confirmed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism in an official statement. The upcoming summit will convene heads of state and government from all 56 Commonwealth member states, centered on the unifying theme “Accelerating Partnerships and Investment for a Prosperous Commonwealth”, designed to drive coordinated cross-national action on shared development priorities across the intergovernmental bloc. During the four-day high-level gathering, Prime Minister Amarasuriya will take part in core executive decision-making sessions and the closed-door Leaders’ Retreat, where Sri Lanka will formally lay out its national policy priorities spanning six key domains: mutually beneficial economic cooperation, targeted foreign direct investment attraction, inclusive digital transformation, youth skills development and empowerment, climate change resilience and adaptation, and advancement of transparent, accountable good governance frameworks. Beyond the formal summit proceedings, the Sri Lankan premier has lined up a packed schedule of bilateral engagements with multiple fellow national leaders, senior political representatives, and top global business executives, with the explicit goal of deepening Sri Lanka’s existing diplomatic ties, unlocking new two-way trade opportunities, and forging robust, long-term development partnerships across the Commonwealth. Amarasuriya is also confirmed to deliver addresses at three high-profile side events running parallel to the main summit: the Commonwealth Women’s Forum, the Commonwealth Leaders and CEOs Investment Summit, and the Global Eye Health Summit. According to the foreign ministry, all of the prime minister’s public and closed-door engagements throughout the summit will center on elevating global visibility for Sri Lanka’s core policy priorities of investment-driven post-recovery economic growth, expanded women’s leadership and economic empowerment, and expanded collaborative action on equitable global health access.
