Cabinet Briefed on Business Forum to be held alongside CHOGM 2026

During a weekly cabinet meeting held in Colombo this week, senior Sri Lankan government officials formally presented a comprehensive, detailed briefing on the upcoming dedicated business forum scheduled to run concurrently with the 2026 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM), marking a key milestone in the preparatory roadmap for the high-profile international diplomatic and economic gathering. The briefing, led by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in partnership with the Ministry of Development Strategies and International Trade, outlined the core objectives of the parallel business forum: to connect over 1,200 global industry leaders, Commonwealth policymakers, small and medium enterprise representatives, and cross-sector investors across 56 member nations to unlock new trade partnerships, sustainable development project collaborations, and inclusive economic growth opportunities for island nations and emerging economies across the Commonwealth. Cabinet members reviewed proposed thematic tracks for the forum, including sessions on blue economy innovation, renewable energy transition, digital financial inclusion, and resilient supply chain development, alongside plans to streamline visa processing for international delegates and showcase Sri Lanka’s post-reform investment landscape to global stakeholders. Government officials confirmed that the integrated event structure will align diplomatic deliberations at CHOGM 2026 with actionable private sector commitments, a design intended to move beyond traditional high-level communiques to deliver tangible economic benefits for local communities and broader Commonwealth member states.
