On the second-to-last day of group-stage competition at the national Under-19 Boys Schools Basketball Tournament, held at Beausejour Gymnasium on Thursday, two Group B clashes delivered lopsided results that locked in key quarterfinal berths and reshuffled the top of the group leaderboard. The most historic performance of the tournament unfolded when Soufrière Comprehensive Secondary School (SCSSS) notched the most one-sided win of the competition so far, running roughshod over Micoud Secondary by a staggering 114-3 final score. SCSSS set the tone immediately, piling up 34 points in the opening frame while limiting their opponents to just 3 points, before executing a suffocating defensive masterclass that held Micoud completely scoreless across the remaining three quarters, with period scores of 37-0, 23-0, and 20-0. Spearheading the rout was standout player Curdin Jones, who posted a tournament record stat line of 61 points, 36 total rebounds (24 on the defensive end), 13 steals, and 8 assists. His teammates Aloysious William and Trenton Henry also turned in strong all-around showings, notching 28 points with 8 steals and 6 assists, and 11 points with 6 steals respectively, while Micoud’s entire 3-point total came from sole scorer Yohanie Joseph. In the day’s second Group B fixture, Castries Comprehensive Secondary School (CCSS) secured a hard-fought 51-28 victory over Sir Ira Simmons Secondary School (SISSS). CCSS stormed out to an early 17-4 first-quarter lead, but a spirited 10-4 second-period rally from SISSS narrowed the gap to 21-14 at the halftime break. CCSS reclaimed full control after the intermission, exploding for a dominant 20-2 third-quarter run that put the match well out of SISSS’s reach. David Chandler anchored CCSS’s winning effort with an efficient double-double of 26 points and 10 rebounds, supplemented by 4 steals, 4 assists, and 3 blocks, while teammates Jeannarl Louis added 8 points and 5 assists, and Kevante Garnier dished out a game-high 9 assists. For SISSS, Jadyn Gabriel led all his side’s scorers with 18 points alongside 4 rebounds and 4 steals, and Tyrese St. Rose contributed 7 points and 2 blocks. Following the day’s results, SCSSS improved to a 3-1 group record with 10 competition points and a +125 point differential, cementing a top-three finish and a guaranteed spot in the upcoming knockout quarterfinal round. CCSS moved to a 4-1 record with 13 total points, drawing level atop the Group B table with pre-tournament contenders St Mary’s College, though SMC retains the head-to-head tiebreaker advantage and a far superior +186 point differential. SISSS, meanwhile, dropped to a 1-1 record with 6 points as the group stage nears its conclusion. Over in Group A, Leon Hess Comprehensive finished its full slate of preliminary matches sitting atop the standings with a 3-1 record and 10 points, one single point ahead of defending champions Sir Arthur Lewis Community College, who hold a 3-0 record, 9 points, and one unplayed fixture still remaining. The day’s on-court action was captured in a series of action photographs from event photographer Terry Finisterre, including a shot of the high-intensity matchup between SCSSS and Micoud Secondary, alongside portraits of competing players and game day moments.
