Air Traffic Control Tower advances as MEP installation continues at Dominica’s international airport

Dominica’s ambitious new international airport project in Wesley has moved one step closer to completion, with contractors now starting mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) piping installation at the site’s Air Traffic Control (ATC) tower, according to the latest construction update from the MMC Development Group.

This latest phase of work represents another incremental but important milestone for the large-scale infrastructure project, with multiple workstreams active across different zones of the airport site to keep development on schedule. The ATC tower is one of several core facilities being built as part of the airport, joining the main passenger terminal, dedicated cargo handling facility, fuel storage farm, and specialized aircraft rescue and firefighting station on the list of key structural components.

Back in June 2026, Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit shared a comprehensive progress update indicating that overall site earthworks and culvert construction were roughly 78% finished, while construction of the airport’s primary runway and connecting taxiways had already passed the 60% completion threshold. The current MEP piping installation at the ATC tower is a critical technical step in outfitting the building with the core infrastructure it needs to support future air navigation operations.

When fully completed, the new international airport is projected to transform Dominica’s air access, expanding the country’s global connectivity and opening new growth opportunities across key sectors including tourism, international trade, and foreign direct investment. The project has already delivered tangible near-term benefits to the local workforce: in an August 2026 update, Finance Minister Dr. Irving McIntyre confirmed that more than 400 Dominican citizens are currently employed directly on the construction site.

Officially, the project remains on track to be finished in the second quarter of 2028. As one of the Caribbean island nation’s largest ever infrastructure investments, the Wesley International Airport continues to be a central pillar of Dominica’s long-term economic growth and national development strategy.
