Haitian regional carrier Sunrise Airways has made a major strategic adjustment to its U.S.-Haiti flight network, announcing Tuesday, October 13, 2026, the launch of a new direct route connecting New York City’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) to Hugo Chávez International Airport (CAP) in Cap-Haitien, Haiti’s second-largest city. The new service is scheduled to begin operations on November 16, 2026, with two round-trip flights per week operating every Monday and Thursday to meet steady travel demand between the two regions.
As part of the airline’s network consolidation in the New York metropolitan area, Sunrise Airways also confirmed it will cease all operations at Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) on October 20, 2026, shifting all its U.S. departure and arrival services to the more centrally located JFK to better serve core passenger groups.
In a statement accompanying the announcement, Sunrise Airways Chief Executive Officer Gary Stone emphasized the new route is tailored to the needs of the large Haitian diaspora community based in New York, as well as inbound American tourists and business travelers heading to Haiti. “Sunrise Airways is committed to making travel more accessible and affordable for the Haitian community living in the Big Apple as well as for American travelers wishing to visit Haiti. New York is a key city for the Haitian diaspora looking to maintain ties with their homeland,” Stone explained.
For passengers arriving in Cap-Haitien, the new route opens up seamless connections to other popular destinations across Haiti, including the southern coastal city of Les Cayes and the capital Port-au-Prince, as well as multiple other Caribbean destinations covered by Sunrise Airways’ expanding regional network.
To celebrate the launch of the new JFK-Cap-Haitien service, the airline has introduced a limited-time introductory promotion under the code name HELLOJFK, which offers a 25% discount on base fares for eligible bookings. The promotional pricing is available for bookings made between October 13 and 16, 2026, and applies to travel completed between the route’s launch date of November 16 and December 15, 2026. The discount applies to base fares across all fare packages offered by the airline, though it excludes government taxes, airport user fees, and other mandatory surcharges. Seats for the promotional fare are limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.
