Ahead of the highly anticipated 2026 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Antigua and Barbuda, a one-of-a-kind celebratory cricket fixture is drawing widespread cross-nation participation from senior global leaders, organizers confirmed this week. Titled “One Commonwealth, One Team – A Commonwealth Cricket Celebration” and presented by Hamilton Reserve Bank, the landmark event will unfold at Antigua’s iconic Sir Vivian Richards Stadium on Sunday, pairing a Caribbean representative side against a Wider Commonwealth all-star team of heads of state and senior government officials. Confirmed Caribbean side participants hail from Antigua and Barbuda, The Bahamas, Belize, Dominica, Guyana, and St. Vincent and the Grenadines, with Guyana’s President Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali set to serve as the team’s captain. Leading the opposing Wider Commonwealth line-up is Kenya’s Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, with confirmed teammates representing Bangladesh, Botswana, India, Kenya, Malta, Mauritius, Mozambique, Pakistan, Samoa, Seychelles, and South Africa, and additional sign-ups still arriving in the lead-up to match day. Other high-profile leaders scheduled to take the pitch include Antigua and Barbuda’s Prime Minister the Rt. Hon. Gaston Browne, St. Vincent and the Grenadines’ Prime Minister the Hon. Dr. Godwin Friday, and The Bahamas’ Prime Minister the Hon. Philip Davis. Organizers note that many national leaders are balancing packed CHOGM summit agendas, so several remaining nations will be represented by senior cabinet ministers and diplomatic representatives, with final full team rosters set to be released in the final days before the fixture. Adding extra cricketing prestige to the event, two legendary former rival cricket captains will oversee dugout operations: West Indies icon and the stadium’s namesake Sir Vivian Richards will act as Honorary Manager for the Caribbean side, while celebrated former England skipper David Gower takes on the equivalent role for the Wider Commonwealth squad. Far more than a casual exhibition game, the fixture is designed to foster lighthearted camaraderie and informal cross-border dialogue between Commonwealth leaders, embodying the core 2026 CHOGM theme of “Accelerating Partnerships and Investment for a Prosperous Commonwealth”. Following the leaders’ match, the day’s proceedings will continue with the Commonwealth Future Stars Under-23 10-over contest, pitting emerging young cricket talent from the Caribbean against their peers from across the broader Commonwealth region. The full celebration is a collaborative production hosted by Cricket West Indies (CWI), in partnership with the Government of Antigua and Barbuda and the Commonwealth Secretariat, with additional operational support from event partners Trivandi, the Khalili Foundation, and the Sustainable Markets Initiative.
