On the evening of Wednesday, October 28, 2026, the Massacre Indoor Facility in Dominica buzzed with vibrant cultural pride as Hazel-Ann Anthony, a representative of the coastal community of Mahaut, was crowned the newest Madam Wob Dwiyet, succeeding the 2025 titleholder Evelina Blanc. Anthony stood out among seven talented community delegates from across the island, who competed across three distinct, culturally rooted segments: live talent showcases, contemporary Creole fashion displays, and the iconic traditional Wob Dwiyet attire presentation that forms the heart of the long-running pageant.
The 2026 victory places Anthony in a distinguished lineage of past titleholders, including 2013 winner Veronica Nicholas, 2014’s Gweneth Lazare, 2016’s Theresa Anthony, and 2019’s Dorothy Laurent. The outgoing 2025 queen Evelina Blanc, who represented both Grand Bay and Mahaut during her reign, notably also took home top honors for Best Performing Talent and Best Creole Contemporary Wear during her winning run last year.
Far more than a standard beauty pageant, the Madam Wob Dwiyet competition is a cornerstone of Dominica’s national cultural calendar, designed explicitly to safeguard and elevate the island’s unique Creole heritage. The annual showcase gives community ambassadors a public platform to highlight local customs, share intergenerational cultural knowledge, and ensure the iconic Wob Dwiyet, a historic traditional dress deeply tied to Dominican national identity, remains a visible, celebrated part of public life for new generations.
