The Dominica Public Service Union (DPSU) has unveiled a series of encouraging updates from its ongoing collective bargaining efforts representing workers across multiple public and semi-public institutions nationwide. In an official public statement issued recently, the labor body noted that its represented members have widely voiced gratitude for the tangible outcomes delivered through its advocacy, especially as long-negotiated benefits begin rolling out to staff. Last week, frontline and administrative personnel at the Dominica Solid Waste Management Corporation received a one-time lump sum payment equal to a full month of base salary, a benefit the union had secured through prior rounds of bargaining with the waste management agency’s leadership. While formal negotiations between the DPSU and the corporation’s management team are far from concluded, a slate of mutually agreed proposals has already been rolled out for implementation, bringing immediate financial relief to staff. The union’s top administrative leader, General Secretary Steve Joseph, is set to convene a dedicated membership meeting on Wednesday, October 28, to finalize the union’s formal bargaining position for salary adjustments covering the 2024 to 2026 three-year period. Elsewhere, staff at Dominica State College are poised to see long-awaited pay raises after the national government approved a boosted operational subvention for the tertiary education institution last week. The newly allocated public funding is earmarked specifically to cover the costs of pre-negotiated staff compensation increases, ending months of uncertainty for faculty and administrative teams at the college. Looking ahead, the DPSU is scheduled to kick off full, substantive salary bargaining sessions with leadership at the Agricultural, Industrial and Development (AID) Bank on November 16, 2026, with both sides signaling a commitment to constructive, good-faith talks to reach a fair agreement for bank employees. Not all bargaining tracks have seen smooth progress, however: negotiations between the union and the Discover Dominica Authority (DDA), the national tourism marketing body, have hit a persistent impasse with no resolution reached to date. The DPSU confirmed in its release that its leadership is currently conducting a full review of all available procedural and advocacy options to break the deadlock and secure fair compensation terms for DDA staff.
