Fourth Jacito Book Introduces Children to Entrepreneurship

On October 27, 2026, award-winning educator and children’s financial literacy advocate Dr. Carol Babb officially launched the fourth volume of her popular Jacito book series, *Jacito Becomes an Entrepreneur*, a vividly illustrated story designed to demystify core business and money management concepts for young readers. The latest release, unveiled at a community book launch event over the weekend, builds on the series’ longstanding mission to make complex financial education approachable for children through relatable, narrative-driven storytelling rather than dry textbook lessons.

The new narrative centers on Jacito, a young protagonist with a bright idea to launch his own neighborhood dog-care service, a plan that quickly evolves into a hands-on learning journey guided by his grandmother. Rather than giving him step-by-step instructions, Jacito’s grandmother challenges him to conduct independent online research to map out every component of his proposed venture: drafting a clear mission and vision statement, listing all required supplies and specialized pet care equipment, and calculating upfront costs to turn his casual idea into a viable operational plan. When Jacito discovers he is too young to qualify for a formal small business loan, his older brother steps in to co-sign for the funding, creating a natural story beat that walks young readers through real-world lessons on loan eligibility, scheduled repayments, and shared financial responsibility.

Dr. Babb, a career educator, explained that the core impetus for the series stems from her desire to equip young people with the tools to generate their own economic opportunities, rather than limiting their future aspirations solely to traditional formal employment paths. “For years, our education system has prioritized teaching young people how to apply for existing jobs, but we rarely give them the foundational skills to build jobs for themselves and their communities,” she noted at the launch event.

The new release has already earned public endorsement from Belize Trade and Investment Development Service (BELTRAIDE) Executive Director Ishmael Quiroz, who emphasized that early financial literacy is the non-negotiable foundation of long-term entrepreneurial success. “New business owners of all ages too often skip the basics: tracking revenue, monitoring operating expenses, setting aside emergency reserves, verifying that their pricing covers all costs, and understanding how small daily financial choices shape long-term business sustainability,” Quiroz remarked, praising the book for introducing these critical lessons at a developmental age where children’s financial habits are first being formed.

Dr. Babb shared that she is now partnering with local primary schools and the Human Resource Credit Union (HRCU)’s existing community financial literacy outreach program to distribute copies of the new series volume to thousands of young students across Belize. Her long-term goal for the Jacito franchise is to ensure every child in the country has access to age-appropriate entrepreneurship education, empowering them to grow into capable, financially independent adults who can turn their creative ideas into tangible, community-focused ventures.
