Anderson Peters closes 2026 Season with 9 podium finishes

Two-time World Athletics champion and Olympic bronze medalist Anderson Peters, the star javelin thrower from Grenada, has officially closed out his 2026 international competitive season, capping a remarkable 11-meet campaign defined by unmatched consistency at the pinnacle of track and field. Over the course of the season, Peters claimed a spot on the podium in nearly 82% of his outings, securing two gold medals, six silver medals, and one bronze medal across elite global competitions spanning multiple circuits.

Peters competed across five of the sport’s most prestigious platforms this year: the Wanda Diamond League, Commonwealth Games, World Athletics Continental Tour, Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games, and the inaugural edition of the World Athletics Ultimate Championship. He opened his 2026 Diamond League run with an emphatic victory in Rabat, Morocco, launching the javelin to a winning distance of 86.08 meters. Between early Diamond League stops, he notched a second-place finish at the iconic 65th Ostrava Golden Spike with an 84.27-meter throw, followed by additional second-place showings in Rome (83.91 meters) and Doha (86.38 meters). This steady streak of top finishes set the tone for the rest of his season, a pattern that held against the deepest and most competitive javelin fields on the international circuit.

The only minor blip in his campaign came at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, where he advanced to the final but finished just off the podium in fourth place with a best throw of 83.88 meters. True to his competitive grit, Peters rebounded immediately at the CAC Games hosted in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, delivering an 83.95-meter effort to claim the regional gold medal for Grenada.

As the season entered its final stretch, Peters’ form only improved. He secured third place in Lausanne with an 86.69-meter throw, before hitting his season-best mark of 86.93 meters to take second in Zurich. He followed that standout performance with another runner-up finish at ISTAF Berlin, recording a distance of 83.32 meters, before wrapping up his Diamond League season with a fourth-place finish at the circuit’s final in Brussels.

Peters brought his 2026 campaign to a memorable close at the inaugural World Athletics Ultimate Championship in Budapest on September 13, where he earned another second-place finish with an 86.18-meter throw. That result marked the ninth podium finish of his 11-competition season, a testament to his unwavering reliability at the highest level of the sport.

Reflecting on the year’s work, Peters emphasized his gratitude for the consistency he and his team maintained across the dense, demanding competitive schedule. “When I look back at the season, I am grateful for the consistency we were able to maintain across a long and demanding competition schedule. Every meet presented a different challenge, and there are performances I am proud of as well as areas where I know there is still more to build,” Peters said. “Representing Grenada continues to mean a great deal to me every time I step onto the runway. I am thankful to my coach, my team, my family, my sponsors and everyone at home who continued to support me throughout the season. Now the focus shifts to recovery, evaluating the year properly and getting back to work for what comes next.”

Peters’ 2026 success was backed by a robust network of local and international partners. He maintains an ongoing brand partnership with Republic Bank (Grenada) Limited, and also serves as an ambassador for global sportswear brand Adidas. Republic Bank has framed its investment in Peters as a core part of its broader mission to empower youth through sport and drive national development in Grenada.

Mavis Mc Burnie, General Manager of Operations at Republic Bank, praised Peters’ 2026 achievements in a statement: “Republic Bank is proud to have played a role in Anderson’s development. His dedication, discipline and consistent performances on the international stage continue to bring immense pride to Grenada. His achievements throughout the 2026 season reflect not only his exceptional talent, but also the perseverance and commitment required to compete among the world’s best. As a bank, we believe in the power of sport to inspire, unite and create opportunities, particularly for our young people.”

Now, Peters is shifting gears from competition to enter a planned period of physical recovery, full season assessment, and targeted preparation for his next competitive cycle. His 2026 campaign closes with two international titles, a new season best of 86.93 meters, and a record of podium consistency that has further solidified his standing as one of the top men’s javelin throwers in the world.
