Reigning I-NET Party Monarch champions Young Lyrics and Tian Winter wrapped up a nine-day cultural tour in West London, where they introduced thousands of international attendees to the one-of-a-kind energy and sound of Antiguan Carnival as part of a global push to build hype for the festival’s landmark 70th anniversary in 2027.
Widely regarded as one of the world’s largest public celebrations of Caribbean and Black British culture, Notting Hill Carnival draws more than two million attendees every year, uniting music and arts lovers from across the United Kingdom, the wider Caribbean region, and every corner of the globe. What began as a small community gathering has grown into a global platform for showcasing Caribbean heritage, from its world-renowned food and fashion to its dynamic visual art and infectious musical traditions. It was against this vibrant backdrop that Young Lyrics and Tian Winter brought their distinct soca sound to London’s stages, highlighting the growing international influence of Antigua’s music scene and the unifying joy of the island’s Carnival culture.
Over the course of their nine-day engagement, the pair performed at a string of high-profile events, including Dreamland, I Island Mas, and the “I Am Woman” soca showcase headlined by leading regional artist Patrice Roberts. Their high-octane sets connected deeply with diverse audiences, shining a spotlight on the soca sound that has become inseparable from Antigua’s annual Carnival celebrations.
Young Lyrics, who currently holds the title of Groovy Soca Monarch, shared that the London tour marked a meaningful milestone for both his career and Antigua’s cultural outreach. “Taking Antigua’s music to London and performing in front of such a diverse crowd was an absolutely incredible experience,” he said. “The energy was unmatched, and the warm response to our sound reminded me just how powerful soca is at bringing people from all backgrounds together. We aren’t just here to perform music — we’re here to promote Antigua and Barbuda, our whole culture, and the one-of-a-kind experience that is our Carnival. With Carnival 70 just around the corner, this is only the start.”
He added: “Notting Hill is such a landmark celebration of all Caribbean culture, so getting to represent Antigua and Barbuda here was a huge honor. A lot of people around the world know Antigua for our beautiful beaches, but many have never gotten to experience the full magic of our Carnival. We hope that after hearing our music in London, people will be inspired to come to the island in 2027 and experience our culture for themselves.”
The international cultural tour was organized and supported by two official local bodies: the Antigua and Barbuda Festivals Commission and the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority. The partnership is part of a broader long-term strategy to expand the global reach of Antigua Carnival’s brand and raise international awareness of the island nation’s rich cultural tourism offerings. Fellow Antiguan soca artist Zamoni also joined the festivities in London, adding another voice to the strong Antiguan contingent representing the island at this year’s Notting Hill celebration.
