Sixty-three-year-old Blanca Estela Pena and her 20-year-old daughter Elia Meza left their wooden residence, located near the intersection of Sparrow Street and San Lorenzo Road, to attend the religious gathering. When they returned to the property just before 6 p.m., they were met with a scene of chaos: an out-of-control blaze had already engulfed most of their home.
Emergency fire crews were dispatched quickly to the scene and worked to bring the fire under control. Despite their rapid response, the damage was already done: the entire wooden structure was reduced to nearly total ruin. To make the devastating situation even worse, the family carried no insurance policy on the home, meaning they will have to cover all rebuilding costs out of pocket.
