Canadian PM meets Caribbean leaders in Antigua and Barbuda

On Tuesday, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney carried out a packed schedule of high-level diplomatic engagements during his one-day stay in Antigua and Barbuda for the ongoing Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting. The Canadian premier kicked off his regional outreach by hosting an exclusive working breakfast for a cohort of Caribbean heads of government, followed by a dedicated one-on-one bilateral discussion with Gaston Browne, the Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda. Beyond his engagements with Caribbean counterparts, Carney’s pre-planned itinerary for the summit includes participation in two formal executive sessions of the Commonwealth governing body, as well as separate closed-door bilateral meetings with the heads of government of Australia, Guyana, and Ghana. Before wrapping up his overseas trip and flying back to Ottawa on Tuesday evening, Prime Minister Carney is also set to join a royal luncheon and state dinner hosted by King Charles III, the symbolic head of the Commonwealth. As confirmed by reporting from Global News, cross-border trade cooperation is positioned as the central priority for this year’s Commonwealth summit, alongside collective action to deepen and formalize diplomatic partnerships across the bloc’s 56 geographically and economically diverse member nations.
