Prime Minister on official state visit to Taiwan

Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre of Saint Lucia is set to spearhead a high-level official delegation on a formal state visit to the Republic of China (Taiwan), with the travel window spanning from October 24 through November 1, 2024. The entire visit is being fully hosted and facilitated by the Government of the Republic of China (Taiwan), marking a key diplomatic engagement between the two sides. During the nine-day diplomatic trip, Prime Minister Pierre is scheduled to hold high-level bilateral talks with Taiwan’s President Lai Ching-te, alongside a roster of other senior Taiwanese government leaders. The scheduled discussions are centered on aligning shared development priorities across multiple sectors, as well as deepening and expanding longstanding collaborative ties between Saint Lucia and Taiwan. To ensure uninterrupted governance at home during the prime minister’s overseas travel, the Saint Lucia government has laid out a clear temporary leadership succession framework. From October 25 to October 26, Dr. Ernest Hilaire will step into the role of Acting Prime Minister, concurrently overseeing the portfolios of Finance, Constituency Development, People Empowerment, Justice, and National Security. Following that handover, Shawn Edward will take over all these acting responsibilities from October 27 through November 1, covering the remainder of Prime Minister Pierre’s absence from the national leadership post.
