A new chapter in Anguilla’s legal leadership has begun, as local product Deniscia Thomas, a native of the Antiguan community of Liberta, has stepped into the role of acting attorney general. The appointment has already drawn widespread celebration from political leaders and community members across Antigua and Barbuda.
E.P. Chet Greene, the Member of Parliament for St. Paul, has emerged as one of Thomas’ most vocal supporters, calling the historic appointment a landmark point of pride for Thomas’ immediate family and the entire regional community that raised her. In comments shared with local publication St. Paul Weekly, Greene emphasized that the opportunity to serve as acting attorney general is no stroke of luck — it is a direct reward for decades of intentional hard work, unwavering professional discipline, and consistent commitment to public service that have defined Thomas’ career.
“This is a proud moment for Deniscia, her family and the entire St. Paul’s community,” Greene shared in his official statement. He went on to note that it is a particular point of joy to see a woman who grew up in Liberta take on this high-stakes leadership role, extending his warmest wishes for Thomas’ success as she works to serve the people of Anguilla throughout her tenure.
Per official reporting from St. Paul Weekly, the appointment was formalized by Anguilla Governor Julia Crouch. Thomas will step into the acting position while sitting Attorney General Rachel Spearing KC is outside of Anguilla for the duration of her assignment. The Governor’s Office made the formal announcement of Thomas’ appointment public on October 15, and the news quickly spread across neighboring Antigua and Barbuda. Beyond political praise, Thomas has also received a flood of personal congratulations from her relatives, close friends, and longtime community members from the St. Paul’s area of Antigua and Barbuda, who have followed her professional journey for years.
