Karen Yip Chuck wordt nieuwe topvrouw Republic Group na vertrek Richard Sammy

One of the Caribbean region’s leading financial groups, Republic Financial Holdings Limited and its core subsidiary Republic Bank Limited (RBL), has announced a planned leadership transition that will see Karen Yip Chuck take the top executive role at both institutions starting January 1, 2027, pending regulatory approval.

The leadership change follows the departure of Richard S. Sammy, who stepped down from the group after 18 years of service, officially leaving the organization on October 14. The Trinidad and Tobago-headquartered financial group made the transition plans public in a formal announcement issued this Thursday.

Under the approved succession plan, Yip Chuck has been tapped to serve as President and Chief Executive Officer of parent holding company Republic Financial Holdings Limited, while also taking on the dual roles of President and Managing Director of Republic Bank Limited. Both appointments remain conditional on final approval from the region’s financial regulatory authority, a standard procedural step for senior leadership changes in the banking sector.

Yashmid Karamath, chair of the Republic Group board of directors, shared public appreciation for Sammy’s decades-long contributions to the organization’s growth. “Richard is a leader of unquestionable integrity. Throughout his 18-year tenure with Republic Bank, every decision he made was guided by deeply rooted personal values and a constant commitment to advancing the best interests of the Group,” Karamath said in a statement.

Sammy, for his part, reflected positively on his nearly two decades with the institution, highlighting the professional and personal connections he built with customers, executive leadership, and frontline staff across the group as the most meaningful part of his tenure. “It has been an absolute privilege to serve this organization over the years, and I wish the entire Republic Group every success in all its future endeavors,” Sammy said.

The planned appointment of Yip Chuck marks the start of a structured transition period that will prepare the regional financial group for a new chapter of leadership as it navigates shifting economic and regulatory conditions across the Caribbean banking landscape.
