Column: OM telt arrestaties, de samenleving wacht op gerechtigheid

Public trust in the rule of law stands as one of the non-negotiable foundational pillars of any functioning democratic society. Citizens have a fundamental right to expect that criminal offenses will be thoroughly investigated, that suspects will receive fair and equal treatment, and that the justice system will deliver outcomes without favor or prejudice toward any individual. Crucially, this trust is not given freely—it must be consistently earned. It cannot be manufactured through impressive-looking statistics on arrests and case volumes, while high-profile public cases remain shrouded in ambiguity about the actual progress of investigations.
