Republic Bank Melville Street Branch gives St John’s Anglican School a shine

On Saturday, September 26, a 15-person volunteer team from the Melville Street Branch of Republic Bank put aside their daily banking duties to bring tangible improvement to a local learning institution, completing a much-needed renovation of a classroom at St John’s Anglican School. Equipped with paint, painting tools, and contagious team spirit, the volunteers spent the day overhauling the space, starting with a full refresh of the classroom’s interior walls and doors. The final transformation turned a worn, dated space into a bright, inviting area that better serves both students and educators. This renovation project is part of Republic Bank’s long-running community outreach program called “School Shine”, which focuses on upgrading learning spaces across local communities. Beyond cosmetic improvements, the team also applied a long-lasting anti-skid coating to the classroom’s floor. This upgrade does more than just improve the room’s overall condition and functionality; it creates a far safer surface for young students moving around the space during lessons and activities. For the team of banking professionals from the Melville Street Branch, the volunteer day offered a valuable chance to step outside the walls of their branch and connect directly with the local school community, contributing hands-on effort rather than just financial support. Leading the volunteer effort was Kathleen Harris-Forrester, Retail Services Manager at the Melville Street Branch. In a statement following the project, Harris-Forrester shared the team’s enthusiasm for the work: “Our entire team was glad to spend the day giving back to the community in a practical, tangible way. A clean, safe, and welcoming learning environment makes a meaningful difference in students’ daily school experiences, and we were proud to do our part to improve this space for the students and teachers at St John’s Anglican School.” This volunteer project underscores Republic Bank’s core institutional commitment to supporting community-focused initiatives that create tangible opportunities and lift overall quality of life for local individuals and neighborhoods. Following the completion of the renovation, bank leadership publicly recognized the Melville Street Branch team for their dedication to community volunteerism, and extended gratitude to St John’s Anglican School for giving the bank the chance to contribute to the school’s learning infrastructure.
