Puerto Plata: Amber Cove and Taíno Bay terminals will receive 38 cruise ships in October

Puerto Plata, a top Caribbean tourism destination, is set to further solidify its standing as a leading cruise tourism hub, with official plans welcoming 38 vessels to its two dedicated terminals — Amber Cove and Taíno Bay — in October 2026.

Data released by the Dominican Republic’s Ministry of Tourism (Mitur) outlines a clear split of cruise arrivals between the two facilities: the Amber Cove terminal is scheduled to host 18 ships, while the Taíno Bay terminal will welcome 20 vessel calls over the month. This steady volume of cruise calls is expected to maintain a consistent, robust stream of international visitors flowing into the province, supporting ongoing tourism sector activity.

Beyond the terminal operations, this influx of cruise tourists delivers widespread economic benefits that ripple across the entire local tourism value chain. Local tour guides, ground transportation providers, handmade crafts artisans, street vendors, and a wide range of other small and medium-sized businesses that rely on tourist spending stand to gain directly from the steady visitor volume. The continued growth of cruise arrivals has become a key driver of sustained commercial activity and local income generation for communities across Puerto Plata.

Mitur has noted that all published arrival schedules remain provisional, and are subject to last-minute adjustments including changes to arrival times, route modifications, full cancellations, or additional vessel additions that may be added before the October 2026 date.
