In the Cienfuegos neighborhood of Santiago Oeste municipal district, a 25-year-old man identified as Eudy Antonio Infante de León, widely known by the aliases “Nifi” or “Ñifi”, has died following a confrontation with agents from the Dominican Republic’s Central Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DICRIM). This fatal incident pushes the total number of deaths linked to such police confrontations to 45 across the country since the start of September.
Official statements released by the National Police confirm that Infante de León, labeled by authorities as an alleged violent offender, confronted responding law enforcement agents while in possession of an unregistered revolver. The weapon was recovered as evidence at the scene after the altercation concluded.
Preliminary investigative accounts outline that police acted to repel an armed attack initiated by Infante de León, leaving him with gunshot wounds. Emergency responders immediately transported the injured man to a local medical facility for urgent care, but he ultimately succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment.
Records from Dominican law enforcement and judicial bodies show Infante de León had an extensive criminal history prior to his death. He carried six prior police records tied to multiple assault and attempted homicide cases, alongside three active court records and two court-ordered travel bans. These restrictions were connected to ongoing legal proceedings for charges of aggravated robbery and participation in a criminal organization. Authorities added that the 25-year-old had previously been prosecuted for prior offenses and completed the court-ordered sentence for those crimes.
At the time of the confrontation, Infante de León was actively a fugitive. He was named in an active arrest warrant labeled 2026-AJ0079682, issued on September 14, 2024, for alleged threats against a citizen who served as a key eyewitness in a pending homicide investigation. Further investigative findings reveal that Infante de León was allegedly contacted by other co-conspirators tied to the same homicide, who contracted him to kill the testifying witness before they could give evidence in court.
Beyond the threats against the witness, he was also a person of interest in multiple other open criminal probes. These include a 2020 assault of a local resident in the Cienfuegos area, the 2022 robbery of an individual named Raymond Yaroa, and a fatal January 2023 robbery in the Inco II sector that left Francisco Carlos Heke Toribio dead.
Following his death, Infante de León’s remains were transferred to the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (INACIF) to complete a full autopsy and other required legal procedures, per standard protocol for fatal police encounters. Local authorities have not yet announced any additional updates regarding ongoing investigations into the criminal network Infante de León was linked to.
