Following the September 7 by-election for the Roseau North Constituency seat in Dominica, United Workers Party (UWP) candidate Daniel Lugay has publicly extended his gratitude to constituents who cast their ballots in his favor, despite falling short of victory to the Dominica Labour Party (DLP) challenger.
Final vote counts confirmed that Lugay secured 998 votes, while DLP candidate Ashma McDougall claimed victory with 1,473 votes, taking the seat. In a post-election statement, Lugay offered sincere thanks to the Roseau North community that backed his campaign.
“To the people of Roseau North, thank you for your trust, your conversations, your encouragement and your unwavering support throughout this by-election,” Lugay said. “To everyone who gave their time, energy, resources and prayers —thank you. Your belief in me and in a better future for our constituency means everything.”
Though the election result did not align with Lugay’s goals, the defeated UWP representative made clear that his commitment to improving the lives of Roseau North residents remains unchanged. He reaffirmed his dedication to continuing work that builds a stronger, more prosperous community for all constituents in the constituency.
