Forbes Recognition Opens Antigua Carnival to New International Audience

One of the Caribbean’s most vibrant cultural celebrations, Antigua Carnival, has seen a sharp surge in international interest after prominent business and lifestyle publication Forbes highlighted the event’s one-of-a-kind authentic charm, rich native musical traditions, deep cultural roots, and immersive visitor experience.

Ambassador Elizabeth Makhoul, chair of the Antigua and Barbuda Festivals Commission, explained that this high-profile recognition opens new doors for the festival, introducing it to global travelers who have never previously considered the Caribbean nation as a top-tier Carnival destination, alongside more widely known celebrations like Rio de Janeiro’s or Trinidad and Tobago’s.

The timing of this global exposure could not be more favorable, as local organizers have already kicked off early preparations for the “Legendary 70” — the milestone 70th anniversary edition of Antigua Carnival, set to run from July 20 to August 3, 2027. Organizers expect the Forbes feature to drive a notable increase in pre-booking inquiries and tourist attendance for the landmark event.

In addition to planning the anniversary celebrations, the Festivals Commission is currently undertaking a comprehensive review of the annual Carnival’s event calendar. This review comes in response to a suggestion from Antigua and Barbuda Prime Minister Gaston Browne, who proposed that several major Carnival events may need to be reordered or rescheduled to improve flow and visitor experience. As of the latest update, no final adjustments have been confirmed, with commission officials noting that they are collecting feedback from stakeholders and attendees before making any formal decisions.
