Medical students to benefit from $3.6m rescue plan

On Monday, education officials announced a transformative $1.8 million US endowment initiative designed to ease the crippling tuition and living cost burdens facing medical students at the University of the West Indies (UWI). Spearheaded by the newly revived Barbados chapter of the University of the West Indies Medical Alumni Association (UWIMAA) in partnership with the organization’s central executive committee, the fund will deliver targeted scholarship support to students who cannot cover the full cost of their medical training at UWI’s Cave Hill Faculty of Medical Sciences and other regional UWI campuses.
