The Caribbean twin-island nation of St. Kitts and Nevis has officially released an updated, full calendar for its iconic 55th annual Sugar Mas Carnival, confirming the flagship cultural celebration will take place across three weeks from December 11, 2026, through January 2, 2027, with additional pre and post-event activities extending the festive fun.
Organized by the country’s National Carnival Committee, the revised schedule preserves the beloved multi-day celebration of Kittitian and Nevisian heritage, packing more than 50 public and private cultural, musical, and community-focused events into the extended seasonal window. The festivities will kick off with the official opening of the Carnival Village at the event Midnight Escape on December 11, followed by a packed lineup that caters to attendees of all ages and interests.
Highlights of the official Sugar Mas 55 program include fan-favorite competitions spanning Junior and Senior Calypso contests and the highly anticipated Soca Monarch Finals, plus a full suite of pageants including Republic Bank Miss Teen SKN, Miss SKN Queen Pageant, and the regional Haynes Smith Miss Caribbean Talented Teen Pageant. The celebration also features signature Carnival staples: the raucous early-morning street party J’ouvert on December 26, a vibrant Junior Carnival for younger participants, the iconic Grand Parade through island streets on New Year’s Day 2027, and the closing Last Lap event on January 2 to wrap up the official program. A range of additional social events, from beach brunches and boat cruises to fêtes and New Year’s Eve galas, round out the public schedule.
To build excitement ahead of the official opening, the committee has also scheduled a series of preliminary public events starting as early as mid-November. These include elimination rounds for both Soca Monarch and Senior Calypso competitions, a holiday-themed community gala, and a multi-day Christmas spirit series running December 7 to 10. Private events will run parallel to the official program from November 28 through January 3, giving both local residents and international visitors extra opportunities to join in the celebration.
