Facing the growing challenge of generative AI disrupting traditional academic assessment integrity, the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) has unveiled a sweeping overhaul of its decades-old School-Based Assessment (SBA) system, confirming plans to phase out traditional in-course SBAs for all non-practical academic subjects by 2028. The restructuring follows year-long consultations with education stakeholders across 21 Caribbean states and territories, and is set to roll out gradually starting from the 2027 academic year, balancing the need to adapt to evolving technology while preserving the value and credibility of CXC qualifications across the region.
