On October 30, 2026, the Government of Belize formally released the full 2027 roster of public and bank holidays, enacted in full compliance with the country’s Holidays Act, Chapter 289 of the Laws of Belize, delivering a generous slate of 14 designated paid days off for all eligible workers across the nation. The 2027 calendar is structured to deliver an unusually high number of extended rest periods, including nine separate three-day weekends and a standout four-day consecutive break for the Easter observance, a major draw for domestic tourism and local leisure planning for Belizean residents. The year opens with back-to-back long weekends to kick off the first month: New Year’s Day falls on Friday, January 1, immediately setting the stage for a three-day weekend for all workers, followed by George Price Day on Friday, January 15, to deliver a second consecutive extended break two weeks later. Three additional standalone Friday holidays further expand long weekend opportunities later in the year: St. George’s Caye Day on September 10 and Garifuna Settlement Day on November 19, joining the pair of January Friday observances to create four natural three-day weekends anchored to the end of the workweek. The most anticipated extended break of the 2027 calendar lands for the Easter holiday period: Good Friday falls on March 26, followed by Holy Saturday on March 27, with the intervening Easter Sunday as a standard non-working weekend day and Easter Monday observed on March 29, creating a seamless four-day consecutive break from Friday, March 26 through Monday, March 29 with no required workdays in between. To maximize extended rest for the public, five additional holidays have been formally moved to adjacent Mondays under the country’s in-lieu holiday policy for dates that fall on weekends: National Heroes and Benefactors Day will be observed on Monday, March 8, Labour Day on Monday, May 3, Emancipation Day on Monday, August 2, Indigenous People’s Resistance Day on Monday, October 11, and Boxing Day on Monday, December 27. Independence Day, one of Belize’s most cherished national observances, falls on a Tuesday on September 21, while two official holidays fall on Saturdays in 2027: Holy Saturday (March 27) and Christmas Day (December 25), with no additional in-lieu adjustment required for the latter as the adjacent Boxing Day observance is already shifted to the following Monday.
