Nexa Credit Union expands reach with new branch in Gouyave

Grenada’s member-owned Nexa Credit Union has officially cut the ribbon on its sixth full-service branch in the Gouyave area of St John parish, marking a key advancement in the cooperative’s multi-year strategy to eliminate barriers to equitable financial services for residents across the tri-island nation of Grenada, Carriacou, and Petite Martinique. Rooted in its longstanding brand promise “WITH YOU, wherever your road leads,” the new brick-and-mortar location was developed directly in response to sustained feedback from St John parish members and local residents, who have long cited gaps in accessible, community-centered financial support in the region. The launch ceremony, held on a Tuesday at the new branch’s St Francis Street address, drew local community leaders, cooperative sector representatives, Nexa team members, and longstanding members of the public. In her keynote address, Nexa Credit Union General Manager Retesha Smith-Boyd emphasized that the Gouyave opening is far more than a real estate expansion: “Since our founding, our core mandate has been to remove unnecessary hurdles that keep hardworking Grenadians from accessing fair, affordable financial tools. This new branch joins our existing network to serve the famously vibrant, 24/7 active community of Gouyave with a financial partner that is fully attuned to its unique needs, rather than operating from a distant centralized office.” As a not-for-profit cooperative governed entirely by its member base rather than external corporate shareholders, Nexa operates on the global cooperative principle of “People Helping People”, a model that distinguishes it from traditional commercial banks that prioritize profit generation for outside stakeholders. Albert Andall, General Manager of the Grenada Cooperative League Limited, highlighted the transformative local impact of the new branch during his remarks, noting that its doors will serve as a launchpad for young savers pursuing educational or entrepreneurial goals, small local businesses seeking expansion capital, and working families working toward homeownership. Local Gouyave resident Alma Dubois-Calliste echoed widespread community enthusiasm for the opening, noting that the area’s previously limited number of formal financial institutions forced many vulnerable groups, including elderly residents, small shop operators, and families with limited access to private transportation, to travel long distances to complete routine banking tasks. The new Nexa location eliminates that burden entirely, while also introducing healthy market competition that expands consumer choice for local financial products. To mark the milestone launch, the credit union is rolling out a limited-time promotional offer: all new membership accounts opened exclusively at the Gouyave branch between October 27 and October 30, 2026, will qualify for a 50% reduction on standard membership fees. Following the opening ceremony, the new branch operated for a special two-hour soft launch window from 2pm to 4pm the same day, before transitioning to its permanent regular operating schedule: 8am to 4pm Monday through Friday, with full closure on Saturdays and Sundays. Nexa Credit Union has invited all local residents, existing members, community stakeholders, and local leaders to visit the new location to learn more about its full suite of member-focused services, which include low-interest loans, competitive savings products, and personalized financial literacy support.
