A major burglary investigation is unfolding at the Saint Lucia Customs and Excise office located within Hewanorra International Airport, after authorities discovered a secure vault and a service pistol were taken from the facility, law enforcement officials confirmed. More than 10 individuals have already been questioned as persons of interest as investigators work to unpack the details of the break-in.
According to an official statement released by the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force on Thursday, the Vieux Fort Police Station first received the formal report of the burglary at approximately 2:20 p.m. on Sunday, October 18. Immediately after the report was filed, law enforcement deployed a specialized team from the Criminal Investigations Department to the airport site to launch the probe.
The investigation is moving forward through a coordinated multi-agency effort, bringing together the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force, Saint Lucia Customs and Excise department, and Ports Police. All three entities are sharing resources and information to speed up progress in the case.
“To date, in excess of ten persons of interest have been interviewed, and targeted searches have been executed across relevant locations,” the official police statement read. “The investigating team continues to work assiduously towards bringing closure to this matter and holding any responsible parties accountable.”
