Nestle to cut 46 jobs

Food and beverage giant Nestle has confirmed that 46 positions across its sales and warehousing divisions in Trinidad and Tobago will be eliminated as the company advances plans to hand over full distribution operations to local industry leader Massy Integrated Retail Ltd.

Of the affected workforce, 30 staff members have chosen to accept voluntary separation packages, while the remaining 16 positions have been targeted for involuntary retrenchment, the company confirmed in an official statement released this week.

The restructuring follows a public announcement made by Nestle on 1 October, which first outlined the strategic partnership that would name Massy Integrated Retail’s Distribution Division as the exclusive primary distributor for all Nestle products across the twin-island nation. The workforce changes will be rolled out incrementally, with all separations scheduled to take effect between November and December 2026, giving affected staff an extended transition timeline.

Nestle emphasized that the decision to restructure its distribution network came after exhaustive collaborative consultations with the Oilfields Workers’ Trade Union, the recognized majority union representing its organized workers, as well as separate discussions with non-unionized staff. According to the company, all separation payouts and benefits comply with Nestle’s internal global employment policies and existing collective bargaining agreements.

Support resources have been made accessible to all employees throughout the consultation process, the statement added. All workers impacted by the job cuts will receive professional outplacement services to assist with new job searches, alongside extended health and welfare benefits to bridge the gap between employment.

In its earlier October announcement, Nestle framed the new distribution partnership as a strategic move to upgrade its route-to-market infrastructure and raise the standard of customer service for retail and wholesale partners across Trinidad and Tobago. Massy Integrated Retail’s Distribution Division was selected for its established reputation as a top local logistics provider, boasting extensive nationwide market penetration and a long record of consistent operational excellence, the company explained.

This distribution transition is part of Nestle’s broader continuous efforts to streamline operational efficiency, expand market coverage, and guarantee consistent access to its well-known brand portfolio for consumers across the country. “The new distribution model allows us to leverage the strengths of a highly capable local partner while continuing to deliver the quality products and service our customers expect,” Miguel Falcon, Cluster Manager for Nestlé Caribbean, noted in the October 1 statement.

Nestle reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to serving customers across Trinidad and Tobago and maintaining a strong local presence for its brand line-up following the completion of the transition.
