As the 2026 Commonwealth Women’s Forum (CWF) approaches, Antigua and Barbuda-headquartered non-profit Integrated Health Outreach (IHO) has launched a groundbreaking global creative advocacy initiative called One Last Thread, calling on women across all 56 Commonwealth member nations to share their lived experiences through original creative works.
The campaign aligns directly with the 2026 CWF’s official theme: Advancing Gender Equality: Investment in a Prosperous and Resilient Commonwealth. Women are invited to submit original works in three categories: poetry, short prose, and spoken word recordings, creating a direct channel for grassroots perspectives to shape the conversations taking place during both the CWF and the wider 28th Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM), which will be hosted in Antigua in November 2026.
In a statement announcing the initiative, IHO Executive Director Dr. Nicola Bird emphasized that progress on gender equality cannot be captured solely by spreadsheets and economic indicators. She noted that meaningful policymaking depends entirely on centering the voices of the women and girls that policies are designed to serve. Only by listening to unfiltered lived experiences can leaders assess whether their current actions are delivering real impact, or where critical adjustments are needed.
“Through One Last Thread, we are giving a global megaphone to the authentic, unedited realities of women across the Commonwealth,” Bird explained. “Our goal is to remind every stakeholder — from national governments to civil society groups, private sector actors to international organizations — that real people are counting on gatherings like CHOGM to deliver tangible, meaningful change, not just empty rhetoric.”
The campaign has outlined clear submission guidelines for interested participants. All entries must be submitted in English, with line and word count limits in place for written works: poetry is capped at 30 lines, while short prose submissions may not exceed 400 words. For spoken word entries, which may be submitted as either audio or video files (with video strongly encouraged), recordings must run no longer than two minutes.
Unlike many digital-only advocacy campaigns, One Last Thread is designed to move beyond social media engagement. Selected submissions will be featured across IHO’s official social media channels and website, and will also be showcased at public events running alongside CHOGM 2026, when thousands of delegates from across the globe gather in Antigua.
Interested participants have until 11:59 p.m. Atlantic Standard Time on October 30, 2026 to submit their works via email to onelastthread@ihoab.com. Full, detailed guidelines for the initiative are available on IHO’s official website at www.ihoab.com/chogm-2026.
Founded and based in Antigua and Barbuda, IHO works to advance gender justice, climate justice, and health equity across the region, with a core mission of empowering marginalized vulnerable populations, upholding universal human rights, and ensuring grassroots civil society perspectives are embedded in national and international policy processes. The One Last Thread campaign receives generous support from The Equality Fund and Global Affairs Canada.
The CWF is one of several official stakeholder events held in conjunction with the biennial CHOGM, bringing together women’s rights organizations, civil society groups, and policymakers to advance gender equity across the Commonwealth. For the 2.7 billion people living in Commonwealth nations, women and girls make up more than half of the total population. Advancing their rights is not just a standalone social goal: it is a foundational pillar that underpins sustainable development and democratic resilience across the bloc. Addressing long-standing systemic challenges — from gender-based violence to economic marginalization to structural inequality — requires intentional, robust collaboration between governments and grassroots civil society, a gap the One Last Thread campaign aims to close.
