Truck driver reports woman’s abduction after crash

A wide-ranging law enforcement investigation is underway in southern Trinidad after a commercial truck driver reported witnessing a startling abduction in the wake of a low-speed highway collision over the weekend. The incident unfolded shortly before midday Saturday in the Rousillac community, along the busy Southern Main Road, just meters from the campus of Rousillac Presbyterian Primary School.

The witness, a 36-year-old truck driver based in South Oropouche, was traveling westbound toward La Brea when the chain of events began. As he navigated the multi-lane highway, a silver Nissan sedan attempted to cut through traffic by slipping between his heavy truck and a second leading vehicle. The maneuver failed, resulting in a side-impact collision between the sedan and the front of the truck. According to the driver’s initial account, the crash caused visible damage to his truck but left all parties involved in the collision unharmed.

After the crash, the truck driver brought his vehicle to a safe stop, exited the cab, and began walking toward the silver Nissan, which had pulled over a short distance ahead of him. It was at this point that he observed a second vehicle, a white H100 model van, pull in behind the crashed sedan. A single man exited the van, approached the driver’s side of the Nissan, and forcibly removed a woman from behind the wheel, the witness told investigators. The man then quickly forced the woman into the back of the van, before the vehicle made a U-turn and sped off in the direction of Oropouche.

Crucially, the truck driver was not able to capture or recall the van’s license plate number, leaving investigators without a key initial lead to track the vehicle. The witness traveled to the local Oropouche Police Station to file an official report just over an hour after the incident, at approximately 12:45 p.m., where detectives conducted an extensive interview and secured a formal written statement from him.

Responding officers immediately traveled to the scene described by the witness to conduct a search for the van and any potential evidence, but came up empty-handed in their initial sweep. Efforts to pull local closed-circuit television footage from nearby businesses and public spaces, as well as interviews with residents and passersby who may have been in the area at the time of the incident, also failed to produce any actionable clues. Even more perplexing for investigators, the crashed silver Nissan that the woman was driving was no longer present at the location the truck driver identified.

Detectives ran a registration check on the vehicle, which led them to a residential address in Fyzabad. When officers arrived at the property, they discovered it had long been abandoned, with no current residents or anyone connected to the Nissan on site.

Following the confusing lead-less initial probe, both the specialized Anti-Kidnapping Squad of Trinidad’s police force and detectives from the La Brea Criminal Investigations Department were notified and brought onto the case to expand the investigation. A senior commander with the South-Western Police Division confirmed to local outlet *Trinidad Express* in an update Sunday that law enforcement is actively pursuing every possible lead in the case, but as of yet, investigators have no information on the identities of either the woman or the suspect, nor any hint of their current whereabouts.

Adding another layer of uncertainty to the case, the senior officer confirmed that no missing person reports for an adult woman matching the vague description provided had been filed with any local police stations in the district over the entire weekend. Law enforcement is now calling on members of the public who may have been traveling along Southern Main Road near Rousillac around 11:30 a.m. Saturday, or anyone who has any information related to the incident, to come forward to assist the investigation.
