At a formal ceremony held at Government House, Antigua’s Governor-General Sir Rodney Williams has officially inaugurated the newly appointed Board of Directors for the Antigua Public Utilities Authority (APUA), a key government body overseeing the island nation’s core public infrastructure services.
The newly assembled leadership team brings together seasoned local figures to steer the authority forward: Luther Lee has taken up the post of Board Chairman, with Purcell Bird stepping into the role of Deputy Chairman. Rounding out the voting board members are Senator Shaquan O’Neil, Elisabeth Fane, Tesfa Francis, and Kelvin Benjamin. To provide strategic guidance and institutional memory, former leader Sir McLean Emmanuel will remain attached to the board as a dedicated consultant, while Joy Dublin will serve as the body’s Corporate Secretary, handling all formal administrative and governance functions.
In his remarks following the swearing-in, Governor-General Sir Rodney Williams laid out clear expectations for the incoming leadership. He emphasized that as APUA progresses through critical upgrade projects for its three core service areas – potable water distribution, electrical power generation and transmission, and national telecommunications networks – the board must prioritize unwavering integrity, transparent accountability to the public, and evidence-based, prudent decision-making to deliver reliable, affordable services for all Antiguan residents.
