South Korea’s Festivals Commission has announced the launch of a brand-new Music Production and Artist Development Department, a strategic move designed to strengthen the country’s growing live music and festival ecosystem. This newly formed department comes in response to the evolving needs of South Korea’s dynamic creative entertainment sector, which has seen explosive global growth in recent years but still faced gaps in nurturing homegrown talent and scaling high-quality music production for major festivals.
Officials from the Festivals Commission note that the new department will focus on three core priorities: supporting emerging independent musicians through grants and mentorship programs, partnering with production houses to upgrade the technical quality of festival performances, and creating structured pathways for new artists to perform at major domestic and international festivals.
Industry analysts expect this initiative will not only elevate the quality of South Korea’s festival offerings but also open up new opportunities for domestic artists to gain global exposure, building on the global momentum of Korean cultural content. The commission has already begun accepting applications for the first round of artist development grants, with the first set of supported projects expected to be announced by the end of the calendar quarter.
