As a centerpiece of Belize’s 2026 national September Celebrations, beloved homegrown entertainer Supa G will take the stage tonight at Belize City’s Lord Rhaburn Plaza as the year’s official Living Legends Concert honoree. The recognition caps a decades-long musical journey that began with humble childhood aspirations few could have predicted would reach this landmark milestone.
Kim Vasquez, director of Belize’s Institute of Creative Arts, confirmed that beyond accepting the honor, Supa G will treat the audience to a live performance of a new track pulled from his upcoming album, giving attendees an exclusive preview of his latest creative work.
For the artist himself, the distinction carries far more weight than any other industry award, because it comes directly from the community that supported him from his earliest days in music. “It’s a great feeling to be honored or to be noticed or recognized by your own people,” Supa G shared in comments ahead of the event. “This acknowledgement means more to me than any recognition from outside our country could.”
Supa G’s path to legendary status started when he was just 12 years old, with an early dream of working as a radio announcer. That ambition shifted once he entered high school, where a formative encounter with iconic Belizean musician Andy Palacio reshaped his goals entirely. “When I started high school, I saw Andy Palacio and said I want to be just like this guy when I grow up,” he recalled of that life-changing moment.
Even as his passion for music grew in his younger years, Supa G never imagined he would build a full-time professional career out of his craft. “I didn’t think about it to this level, probably just as a part time, something on the side, not as a professional,” he explained. Decades later, that side passion has turned into a legacy that has shaped Belize’s modern music landscape.
To this day, the artist says his creative inspiration remains rooted in the everyday lives of Belizean people, and he prioritizes staying connected to the tastes and experiences of the audiences that support him. “I always make sure I have my ears on the ground, listening to what people like,” he said, noting that connection to community has been the core of his long and successful career.
