Against a backdrop of accelerating digital shift across the Caribbean, Grenada is stepping into the spotlight as a rising regional center for digital innovation and technological advancement, led by homegrown initiative Island Innovators. The organization is building bridges between creative innovators and key local and regional stakeholders, with a clear mission to move abstract discussions about digital transformation into tangible, on-the-ground action.
Brendan Heyck, co-founder of Island Innovators, framed the organization’s core mission around intentional connection. “Island Innovators exists to weave together people, groundbreaking ideas, supporting institutions, and high-impact opportunities that can drive the entire region forward,” Heyck explained. “We have seen firsthand what unfolds when the right minds converge around shared, purpose-driven opportunities — our job is to turn those connections into meaningful, lasting change. While our work aims to deliver impact across the Caribbean, Grenada is our home and our headquarters, and we are deeply committed to moving the needle on digital transformation right here.”
On September 10, Island Innovators will host its landmark Gold Economy Digital & Tech Leadership Assembly at The Flying Fish, located within Mount Cinnamon Resort. The invitation-only event will gather a cross-sector cohort of ICT visionaries, early-stage and established entrepreneurs, corporate enterprise leaders, venture capital and impact investors, public sector policymakers, and institutional stakeholders. Attendees will collaborate to unpack actionable ideas and untapped opportunities tied directly to Grenada’s national digital transformation strategy.
This assembly builds on the success of Island Innovators’ previous Blue Economy Action Lab, which drew more than 30 sector leaders and delivered tangible outcomes, including formal strategic partnerships and targeted financial investments into emerging regional projects.
The upcoming event is co-hosted in partnership with two local Grenadian firms, Sonover and Metarelic, alongside regional industry body the Caribbean Digital Finance Alliance. It comes at a pivotal moment for Grenada, as the country advances regulatory and institutional plans to launch its official national Digital Transformation Agency. The assembly is designed to map out clear, implementable pathways for integrating new digital infrastructure into Grenada’s core national economy, unlocking growth across every sector.
For Island Innovators, the assembly is far more than a standard industry conference. It is a purpose-built platform for cross-sector connection, collaborative problem-solving, and opportunity creation, designed to bring key stakeholders together around initiatives that will deliver real, measurable benefits for both Grenada and the broader Caribbean region. The organization has already expanded its footprint across the Caribbean, building active professional and institutional networks in Trinidad and Barbados, and it is set to participate in an upcoming Innovation Summit in St. Lucia. Notably, the CEO of summit host Obtronics will be in attendance at the September 10 Grenada assembly to strengthen cross-island collaboration.
Heyck emphasized the far-reaching economic benefits of investing in a robust local digital ecosystem. “A connected, dynamic digital ecosystem opens new doors for entrepreneurship, foreign and local investment, homegrown innovation, skills development, cross-regional collaboration, and global partnerships,” he noted. “It also positions Grenada to lead the next wave of sustainable economic growth across the Caribbean.”
