ABFA Congratulates U14 Boys Following Impressive CFU Challenge Series Campaign

Even after a gritty semi-final exit at the 2026 Caribbean Football Union U14 Challenge Series in Punta Cana, the young male footballers representing Antigua and Barbuda have emerged as national standouts, earning glowing recognition from their country’s top football governing body.

The Antigua and Barbuda Football Association (ABFA) has moved to publicly celebrate the under-14 side’s landmark campaign, which came to a close with a 3-1 hard-earned win for Suriname in the tournament’s penultimate round. A breakdown of the match shows the Antigua and Barbuda side faced an early setback, conceding an opening goal within the first half’s opening exchanges. The young squad did not wilt under pressure, however, with forward Kaiique Martin drawing the sides level in the 27th minute to reset the contest.

For much of the remaining 60-plus minutes of play, the Antigua and Barbuda side held firm, pushing back against repeated Suriname offensive pushes. It was not until the closing minutes of the second half that Suriname managed to break through the defense twice more, securing the two late goals that booked their place in the tournament final and ended Antigua and Barbuda’s run.

What makes the squad’s achievement so notable is their unblemished run through the group stage leading up to the knockout round. The young prospects won all three of their preliminary matches, finishing atop their group to clinch an automatic spot in the semi-finals, a result that exceeded many pre-tournament expectations.

In an official statement released after the semi-final match, the ABFA extended its gratitude to every person that contributed to the team’s successful campaign. “We want to thank our players, coaching crew, support staff and every fan that stood with the team for their incredible dedication, commitment and unwavering belief throughout this entire journey,” the statement read.

Acknowledging that the semi-final result fell short of the squad’s ultimate goal of lifting the tournament trophy, the association emphasized that the young team has already delivered immense national pride. “The result may not have been what we wanted, but the boys made their country proud,” the ABFA said. Encouraging the rising football stars to remain focused on their development, the governing body added: “This is only the beginning.”
