GLASGOW, Scotland – Small in population but mighty in competitive spirit, Team Dominica has returned home from the 2026 Glasgow Commonwealth Games with one of the most extraordinary medal and performance hauls in the nation’s international sporting history. The Caribbean delegation claimed a milestone first gold medal, smashed national records, posted multiple personal bests, and earned a spot in a top-tier athletics final, cementing Dominica’s growing reputation as a contender on the global Commonwealth sporting stage, per an official statement from Commonwealth Sport Dominica.
Leading the charge for the team was veteran triple jumper Thea LaFond-Gadson, who carved her name into Dominica’s sporting history books by securing the country’s first-ever Commonwealth Games gold medal in the women’s triple jump event. Competing at Scotstoun Stadium on July 30 during day seven of the Games, LaFond-Gadson delivered a winning jump of 14.60 metres to claim the top spot on the podium. The gold completes a full set of Commonwealth Games medals for the athlete, who previously took home bronze and silver at past editions of the tournament.
On the athletics track, rising star Dennick Luke turned in a performance that announced his arrival among the Caribbean’s elite 400-metre hurdlers. Remarkably, Luke has only specialized in the event for less than two years, yet he fought his way through qualifying rounds to reach the biggest final of his young career. He crossed the finish line in 49.27 seconds to take fourth place, missing out on the bronze medal by a razor-thin margin of just 0.05 seconds, a result that underscores his rapid upward trajectory in the sport.
In the swimming pool, Jasmine Schofield also turned her Glasgow Games appearance into a career-defining outing. Competing across four different events, Schofield hit personal best times in two races and broke two long-standing Dominican national records, turning in a performance that exceeded pre-Games expectations for the young swimmer.
Beyond celebrating the athletes’ successes, Commonwealth Sport Dominica extended formal recognition to the full delegation that supported the team throughout the tournament. This includes accompanying officials Shaminey Walsh-Dupuis, the swimming team official, athletics official Aaron Gadson, and Chester Letang, the delegation’s Chef de Mission.
