On a lively Saturday evening, July 18, the first-ever Talent Takeover competition hosted by the St. John’s Rural South Youth Arm drew a diverse crowd of community members and young art enthusiasts to Club Labour. Built as a new platform to elevate emerging local performers, the sold-out event blended live music, crowd engagement, and community connection into an unforgettable night of artistic celebration.
Eight emerging competitors took to the stage throughout the evening, putting their unique vocal and performance skills on display for an energized, packed audience. In a departure from traditional judge-led competitions, the outcome of the contest was determined entirely by the audience’s live vote, putting the power to select the champion directly in the hands of attendees.
When the final votes were tallied, Abigail Noel walked away with the historic title of the first-ever Talent Takeover Champion. Her dynamic, soulful delivery of Adele’s hit ballad *One and Only* resonated deeply with the crowd, earning her enough support to claim the top spot alongside a $1,000 grand prize. Following closely behind, Ariel Royer took second place and a $600 prize for her performance of her own original composition *Young and Reckless*, while Jr. Alstar Braffer rounded out the top three with a captivating delivery of his original track *Samba*, securing a $400 prize for his third-place finish.
Beyond the core competition, the evening was elevated by special guest sets from three popular local acts: Voltage Band, C4 Entertainment, and Antsness. Their dynamic performances amplified the vibrant, inclusive energy of the venue, keeping the crowd engaged between competition sets and contributing to the event’s overall success.
Organizers from the St. John’s Rural South Youth Arm have publicly extended gratitude to every person and group that contributed to the debut event, from competing performers and guest acts to sponsoring partners, volunteer staff, and community patrons who turned out to support young artists. Following the overwhelming positive response to the inaugural staging, the youth organization announced plans to establish Talent Takeover as an annual tradition, growing the platform to discover and nurture emerging creative talent across Antigua and Barbuda for years to come.
