EVs, hybrids gain traction with consumers – dealers

Barbados’ automotive market is undergoing a rapid, transformative shift, as growing numbers of local motorists turn to electric vehicles (EVs) and hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) in search of lower running costs and accessible prices made possible by targeted government policy. The accelerating consumer uptake aligns with the island nation’s official decarbonization goals, with Energy Minister Kerrie Symmonds recently announcing the government’s target of achieving near-total vehicle electrification within 5 to 10 years. The policy is designed to cut Barbados’ heavy reliance on costly imported fossil fuels and drive down systemic energy costs across the country.
