Local law enforcement authorities in Belize District have launched a full-scale criminal investigation into the fatal shooting of 38-year-old construction worker Darrell Thompson, a long-time resident of the Ladyville community, which unfolded on the evening of Friday, October 23, 2026. According to official statements from Assistant Superintendent of Police Stacy Smith, the first alert to the violent incident came at roughly 10:45 p.m., when uniformed officers conducting routine patrols in the Ocean Jack Avenue area of Ladyville reported hearing a sudden burst of gunfire. Responding units arrived on the scene within minutes to find Thompson suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, and despite immediate attempts to render emergency first aid, he was pronounced dead at the location. Preliminary witness accounts collected by investigators confirm that Thompson was walking alongside two acquaintances along the residential thoroughfare when an unmarked SUV pulled up beside the group. A single male suspect stepped out of the vehicle’s passenger side, discharged several rounds directly at Thompson, then immediately re-entered the SUV, which fled the area at a high rate of speed before any patrol units could intercept it. As of the latest public update, detectives have not been able to pinpoint a clear motive for the targeted attack, and no arrests have been made in connection with the murder. Investigators are currently poring over dozens of hours of closed-circuit television and residential doorbell camera footage collected from surrounding properties in the hopes of identifying the suspect vehicle, tracking its escape route, and uncovering new leads that could help identify the perpetrator. ASP Smith has also issued a public appeal to any local residents who may have witnessed the shooting or have unreported footage of the SUV in the area that evening to contact the Ladyville police detachment anonymously to assist with the ongoing case.
