A brazen daylight robbery in a busy Maraval parking lot has sparked public concern after graphic cellphone footage of the attack spread widely across social media platforms, leaving local police investigating and a popular local eatery moving to boost customer safety. The incident unfolded yesterday on Saddle Road outside Adam’s Bagels, when an unnamed woman had just approached her parked Kia Sportage to unlock her vehicle, according to details captured in the circulating video. A silver Nissan sedan had been parked alongside her SUV, and as the woman reached for the passenger door handle, three male suspects quickly exited the Nissan and moved toward her. The first suspect immediately tackled the woman, grabbing at her handbag while she resisted the theft. During the struggle, the attacker threw the woman forcefully onto the pavement, but she refused to let go of her property. A second suspect then joined the attack, repeatedly striking the woman in the face while she laid helpless on the ground. The victim finally surrendered her bag after the sustained assault, and the three suspects fled the scene in their silver sedan, leaving her injured and shaken on the parking lot pavement. Law enforcement was alerted to the attack immediately after the incident, with officers from both the Port of Spain Division and Western Division dispatched to the location to launch an investigation. Police sources officially confirmed the incident to local outlet Trinidad Express yesterday, but full formal details of the police report remained pending as of press time. In a public statement posted to its social media channels yesterday, Adam’s Bagels addressed the frightening attack on one of its customers, acknowledging the widespread concern the incident has caused for patrons and nearby residents. “We understand that this may be concerning for our customers and neighbours, and we want to assure you that we are treating the matter with the utmost seriousness,” the business said in its release. Representatives of the eatery confirmed that staff provided immediate care and support to the victim right after the assault. In a reassuring update, the business confirmed that the woman escaped the attack without serious physical injury, though she remains emotionally shaken from the traumatic experience. “Our thoughts are with her,” the statement added. Adam’s Bagels emphasized that this marked the first violent incident of this kind in the history of its location, and that the management team is taking urgent action to prevent any similar attacks going forward. “We are conducting a thorough review of the circumstances and are taking immediate steps to strengthen safety. Security will be increased immediately and throughout the Christmas season, with the security station remaining attended at all times,” the release said. The business also shared a key detail from initial accounts: investigators understand the victim was followed to the parking lot before the attack. In a safety advisory, the business urged all patrons to remain vigilant of their surroundings at all times, and to report any suspicious activity to management or law enforcement without delay. “The safety and well-being of our customers, staff, and neighbours are extremely important to us, and we are committed to maintaining a safe and welcoming environment,” the statement concluded. “We sincerely appreciate your continued trust, support and understanding.” As of yesterday, the three suspects remained at large, with police continuing to review security footage and interview witnesses to advance their investigation.
