PBN brings back news in Spanish as Antigua and Barbuda moves toward a bilingual future

After a period of absence, Spanish-language news coverage has returned to two of Pointe Broadcasting Network (PBN)’s flagship programs, expanding accessible information access for Spanish-speaking communities across Antigua and Barbuda. The revived segments now run regularly on both the network’s morning breakfast show *Morning Pointe* and its flagship nighttime broadcast, the *PBN Evening News*.

Each segment is crafted to deliver a comprehensive roundup of the day’s most critical updates, ranging from breaking local events to key regional shifts and major international developments. For the nation’s Spanish-speaking residents, the return fills a long-standing gap in accessible news, giving them the opportunity to stay informed on issues that impact their daily lives in their primary language. Beyond serving existing Spanish speakers, the segments also offer a valuable resource for residents learning the language, providing authentic, real-world exposure to conversational and professional Spanish in a daily news context.

The relaunch aligns with the country’s official policy designation of Spanish as its second national language, a decision that opened a new era of multicultural inclusion for the Caribbean nation. In a statement announcing the return, PBN General Manager Dr. Eldean Eudole framed the move as a core commitment to equitable media access. “When the government declared Spanish our second official language, it opened a new chapter for this country, and the media must be part of that chapter,” Dr. Eudelle noted. “Bringing back News in Spanish is about inclusion. Every resident of Antigua and Barbuda deserves to be informed in a language they understand.”

PBN Chairman Luther Lee echoed that sentiment, emphasizing that the decision reflects the public broadcaster’s long-standing mandate to serve every corner of Antigua and Barbuda’s population. “PBN has always been committed to serving the whole community,” Lee said. “As Antigua and Barbuda embraces a bilingual future, we are proud to play our part in building a more connected and informed country.”

Looking ahead, PBN has announced plans to continue collaborating with local community groups to refine the existing Spanish segments, with goals to expand Spanish-language programming across more of the network’s offerings in the coming months. The network says it will incorporate community feedback to ensure the content meets the needs and interests of all its Spanish-speaking audiences.
