Plans for a new port facility on the Caribbean island of Barbuda are moving forward, with development leaders projecting that the completed infrastructure will open new opportunities for direct cargo shipments to and from the island. Currently, much of Barbuda’s cargo is routed through neighboring Antigua before being transferred to smaller vessels for the final leg of the journey. The new port is designed to eliminate this extra step, reducing transportation costs and shortening delivery times for goods moving into and out of the country. This infrastructure upgrade is expected to support local economic growth by strengthening Barbuda’s supply chain connections to regional and global trade networks, while also creating local construction jobs during the development phase.
