The small Caribbean island of Saint Lucia witnessed the re-emergence of a rising young football star on a dramatic Monday night at the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground, when 20-something forward Kegan Caull netted a first-half hat-trick against Bermuda to power the Piton Boyz, Saint Lucia’s national men’s team, to a 5-2 victory in a Concacaf Nations League fixture. While Caull might strike casual football observers as an overnight sensation, the promising winger has been building a reputation as a consistent goalscorer at both youth and international levels for nearly a decade.
Caull’s first major breakout came on the regional youth circuit long before his recent star turn against Bermuda. Back in 2018, the teenager, nicknamed “Ibu” after a legendary African actor, competed in the Caribbean Football Union Boys’ Under-14 Challenge Series, where he finished the tournament tied for second place in the Golden Boot race with five goals across the competition. A year later, he was a core member of the historic 2019 Saint Lucia U-15 national squad that claimed the Concacaf Boys’ Under-15 Championship title in Bradenton, Florida. During that championship run, Saint Lucia notched impressive wins over St Kitts & Nevis (3-1), French Guiana (2-0), Belize (2-1), Nicaragua (3-1) and Puerto Rico (3-1) en route to the trophy, with Caull contributing three crucial goals and earning a spot on the tournament’s Best XI for his standout performances.
Raised in Canaries after being born in Vieux Fort, Caull cut his teeth in the youth system of VSADC Academy based in Castries, Saint Lucia’s capital. It was there that his raw talent caught the attention of Nick Clement, a former youth player and FIFA-certified agent based in England who heads the London-based talent agency Creating Unique Chances (CUC758). Clement stepped in to shepherd the young prospect into the professional ranks, securing Caull his first pro contract with Europa Point FC, which competes in Gibraltar’s top-tier First Division. Between 2021 and 2023, Caull lived up to the hype, scoring five goals in just 10 appearances for the Gibraltarian side – including a memorable hat-trick on his professional debut. During a brief return to his home country during that period, he continued his scoring tear, notching seven goals in nine matches for his boyhood club VSADC.
Caull’s journeyman professional career has since taken him across Europe, expanding his experience across diverse football cultures. After his stint in Gibraltar, he signed with NK Tolmin of Slovenia, where he again matched his previous goalscoring rate with five goals in 10 outings and helped the club secure a silver medal finish in their domestic league. A move to Villena CF in Spain followed, where he found similar success, scoring six times in 10 matches. However, his career hit a small rough patch after a subsequent move to two English non-league sides, where he managed only two goals in 13 appearances, mostly coming off the bench as a late-game substitute.
Most recently, Caull completed a short spell in the Jamaica Premier League, and he is currently a free agent actively searching for his next professional contract. That search just got a whole lot easier after his explosive performance against Bermuda, a result that has put club scouts across the region and Europe on notice. The young forward has already made his ambition clear, publishing a public statement on his LinkedIn profile outlining his goals and strengths. “I am a confident and hardworking attacker currently open to new football opportunities where I can showcase my ability and continue developing my game,” Caull wrote. “As a forward, I bring pace, intelligent off-ball movement, clinical finishing ability, and a strong desire to make an impact in every match. I am committed, disciplined, and always willing to work for the team while constantly improving my performance on and off the pitch. I am looking for a club or opportunity where I can contribute goals, energy, and professionalism.”
Long before he made his senior international debut, Caull established himself as a dominant youth prospect at every level, including leading Ciceron Secondary School to a third-place finish in Saint Lucia’s national inter-school football championships. While the shift from youth football to full senior and professional competition has not always been smooth for the young winger, six caps into his senior international career, Caull appears to have finally found his rhythm at the highest level of the sport.
Caull’s breakout performance against Bermuda also shone a light on the lasting success of Saint Lucia’s 2019 U-15 championship squad, with multiple members of that iconic team still building their football careers today. Midfielder Shaquan Nelson, another 2019 squad member, earned his ninth senior international cap in the same Bermuda match. Gilles Aurelien, another product of that cohort, earned All-Conference honors as a box-to-box midfielder competing in U.S. college soccer and is currently eligible for the upcoming MLS SuperDraft. Dahmanii Berthier claimed the Emmanuel Bellas Trophy, awarded to the top player in the second tier of Saint Lucia’s Semi-Professional Football League (SPFL), in the most recent season, while Keanu Felicien and Dante Fitz also compete in the SPFL. Joaquim Johnson recently completed his collegiate career in the U.S. on a football scholarship, earning his degree while competing.
