As demand for travel to the Caribbean dual-island nation of Antigua and Barbuda continues to climb among UK tourists, British Airways has announced a major expansion of its air connectivity between the UK and the destination. The airline will extend its daily winter service between London Gatwick Airport and Antigua’s V.C. Bird International Airport through the entire month of April 2027, adding more than 3,000 extra seats to meet growing travel demand.
This extension of daily operations creates a new, high-value opportunity to boost UK tourist arrivals during the spring travel window, a period that has historically seen lower off-peak visitation. For holidaymakers, the expanded schedule delivers far greater flexibility when planning trips to experience everything Antigua and Barbuda has to offer, eliminating the limited flight options that previously deterred spring travel.
The enhanced air link comes at a time of strong growth for Antigua and Barbuda’s core UK source market. Official preliminary data shows that between January and August 2026, the destination welcomed 53,439 stay-over visitors from the United Kingdom, marking an 11.2% increase compared to the same eight-month period in 2025.
The flight expansion announcement comes after months of targeted outreach and promotional work in the UK led by Cherrie Osborne, Director of Tourism for UK and Europe at the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority. Osborne and her team have focused on growing year-round visitation, working to position the destination as more than just a winter sun getaway by highlighting its diverse offerings beyond its internationally renowned white-sand beaches.
In a statement following the announcement, Osborne noted that her team’s core priority in the UK has been building consistent, long-term demand for Antigua and Barbuda and giving travelers compelling incentives to visit across all seasons. “Extending daily British Airways services into April 2027 is a hugely positive step and gives us a valuable additional window in which to drive visitation,” she said. “We look forward to working with British Airways and our travel trade partners to maximise the capacity, convert demand into bookings and showcase the diversity of experiences that make Antigua and Barbuda such a special destination.”
The extended daily schedule will align perfectly with one of Antigua’s most iconic annual events, Antigua Sailing Week, which is scheduled to take place from April 21 to 25, 2027. Travelers looking to attend the world-famous regatta will now have far more flight options to reach the island, a benefit that is expected to drive higher attendance and tourism spending during the event.
Beyond sailing regattas, Antigua and Barbuda hosts a full calendar of year-round events spanning competitive sports, culinary festivals, cultural celebrations, heritage exhibitions, arts showcases and major international gatherings, giving travelers a wide range of activities to enjoy regardless of when they visit.
Following the April extension, British Airways will revert to its regular off-peak schedule, operating five flights per week on the route from May through the end of October, before reinstating daily winter service for the peak winter travel season.
