CFU Challenge 2026 (U-14) : The Grenadiers lose 1-0 against the Huracáns Azul of Puerto Rico (video)

The 2026 Caribbean Football Union (CFU) U-14 Boys Challenge continued on August 19, with a Group B Tier I clash between host nation Haiti’s young national side, the Grenadiers, and Puerto Rico’s Huracán Azul selection held at the Cap Cana Sports City complex. Despite a narrow 1-0 defeat for Haiti at full time, the result did not alter the group standings, leaving the Grenadiers atop Group B and confirmed their spot in the tournament’s upcoming semi-final round.

With Haiti’s semi-final qualification already secured ahead of this final group stage fixture, head coach Jean Marc Alexandre made the strategic decision to field a heavily rotated starting lineup. The choice was designed to give every member of the tournament squad valuable competitive minutes, while resting key players who had featured heavily in earlier qualifying matches and alleviating unnecessary pressure ahead of the knockout stage.

The rotated starting lineup for Haiti featured Alexandre S. Gedviergeson (Vapor Académie, Haiti) in goal, captain Cédric Claremond (Les Rouleurs FC, Haiti), Kendy Dolbrun (Flamengo FC, Haiti), Ronelson Pelé Janvier (Les Rouleurs FC, Haiti), Jerry Petit-Homme (FC Toro, Haiti), Kyle Fontaine (EF Condor, Haiti), Desmond Boisrond (New York Red Bulls, USA), Wood-James Bernard (EFAT, Haiti), Jean Baptiste Garrison (New York City FC, USA), Jean Messi Jay (CEFOG, Haiti), and Adrian Hogarth (Fort Lauderdale United FC, USA).

The only goal of the match came in the 60th minute, when Puerto Rico’s Sebastian Bennett found the back of the net to secure the 1-0 win for Huracán Azul.

Following the conclusion of Group B Tier I play, Haiti holds the top position with three matches played, two wins, one loss, zero draws, a +5 goal difference (nine goals scored, four conceded), and six total points. As the only team to advance from the group, all other Group B sides have been eliminated from the 2026 CFU Challenge.

Haiti’s next fixture is the semi-final match against the Dominican Republic’s Los Quisqueyanos, scheduled for August 21, 2026, with the official kickoff time yet to be announced. The tournament will conclude on August 23, with both the third-place match and the Tier I Grand Final set to be played on that day.
