Two Detained After Fisherman Gets Shot While Entering His Yard

A shooting incident in San Pedro early on the morning of August 16 has left a local fisherman wounded, with law enforcement confirming two people have been taken into custody in connection with the attack.

The victim, identified as 26-year-old John Hernandez, was shot multiple times as he walked into the yard of his private residence. Surveillance camera footage from the area captures the sequence of events: just before 4 a.m., two men riding a motorcycle approached the front of Hernandez’s home. One of the pair dismounted the vehicle, charged toward Hernandez, and fired several gunshots at him before fleeing the scene.

Immediately following the attack, Hernandez was quickly transported to the San Pedro Polyclinic to receive urgent medical care. Due to the nature of his injuries, medical providers made the decision to airlift him to Belize City for more advanced treatment, where he was admitted to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital. As of the latest update from San Pedro police, Hernandez’s condition is currently listed as stable, though the investigation into the motive for the shooting remains ongoing.
