Early Thursday morning, a traffic incident brought gridlock to one of Santo Domingo’s busiest urban intersections, after a semi-trailer hauling construction materials flipped at the crossing of John F. Kennedy Avenue and Núñez de Cáceres. The crash caused the vehicle’s full cargo load to spill across multiple lanes of the roadway, immediately halting through traffic and creating long backups for commuters across the capital city.
Following the overturn, westbound movement along John F. Kennedy Avenue was completely blocked by the crashed vehicle and scattered construction debris, most of which consisted of loose wooden building materials. In response to the emergency, the General Directorate of Traffic Safety and Land Transportation (DIGESETT) quickly issued public alerts urging motorists traveling through the area to re-route their trips. The agency specifically advised drivers moving between the west and east sides of the city to avoid the affected corridor entirely and use alternative side streets or major arteries until cleanup operations were complete.
As of the latest update from local authorities, no people have been injured and no fatalities have been recorded connected to the incident. Cleanup crews remain on site working to clear the spilled materials, remove the damaged semi-trailer, and restore full traffic flow to the busy intersection.
