The Dominican Republic has kicked off a landmark global promotional drive, the “Cabarete Surf and Wind City” initiative, crafted to cement Cabarete’s status among the world’s top-tier destinations for water-based adventure sports including surfing, kitesurfing, and windsurfing.
The official launch of the campaign took place on Miami Beach, hosted by the Dominican Republic’s Ministry of Tourism (Mitur). Beyond spotlighting Cabarete’s consistent year-round wind and wave patterns that have long drawn professional athletes and casual outdoor lovers alike, the initiative also showcases the region’s stunning natural landscapes and one-of-a-kind adventure-focused way of life.
David Collado, the country’s Tourism Minister, emphasized that the new campaign forms a core part of the nation’s broader tourism diversification strategy. Instead of leaning solely on the classic sun-and-seaside vacations that have long dominated the Dominican Republic’s travel brand, the country is now looking to attract visitors seeking genuine, active experiences rooted in connecting with the natural environment.
Three standout locations take center stage in the promotional materials. Playa Encuentro, widely acknowledged as the Dominican Republic’s top surfing hotspot, features prominently alongside Kite Beach and Cabarete Bay, two sites globally celebrated for their reliable, ideal conditions for kitesurfing and windsurfing in every season.
Per Ministry of Tourism plans, the campaign will roll out across key tourism markets in North and South America, Europe, and the Caribbean. Promotional efforts will leverage targeted digital platforms, niche outdoor and water sports media outlets, and tailored marketing initiatives designed to resonate specifically with adventure travelers and global water sports enthusiasts.
