A tragic multi-vehicle accident during Dominica’s Carnival festivities has claimed two lives, including a New York-based Dominican national returning to her homeland for the annual celebrations. The Friday evening collision occurred along a roadway involving three vehicles: a Toyota Noah, a Toyota HiAce bus, and a motorcycle.
The Dominican Republic-born Christian Green, 39, a resident of New York, was identified as one of the fatalities. Ms. Green was riding as a passenger on the motorcycle involved in the devastating crash. The second victim was confirmed as Romaine Bent, a Jamaican national who had been residing in the Massacre community of Dominica.
Emergency responders transported both individuals to the Accident and Emergency Department of the Dominica-China Friendship Hospital. Despite medical intervention, medical personnel pronounced both victims deceased at approximately 9:42 PM local time.
The Commonwealth of Dominica Police Force has initiated a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision. Authorities have transferred the bodies to Lyndhurst Funeral Home, where post-mortem examinations will be conducted to determine the precise causes of death.
This incident has cast a somber shadow over the island’s traditional Carnival celebrations, which typically draw numerous diaspora members back to Dominica. The police department has reiterated its commitment to road safety awareness, particularly during major public events that see increased vehicular and pedestrian traffic.
